St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church
Ethan Crocker
Vestry
Ethan Crocker serves on the vestry at St. Andrew’s, the elected lay council that helps lead the parish. He spends his weekdays on holy work of another kind: teaching first grade at Randolph Elementary School, where six-year-olds learn to read, carry the ones, and sit still for almost a whole story. A parish that welcomes children, fidgets and all, is lucky to have a man on its vestry who manages a room full of them every day.
He trained for it properly, with a Bachelor of Science in elementary education from the University of Montevallo and a Master of Education from the University of West Alabama. Randolph is one of the towns our congregation calls home, so when Ethan drives in on a Sunday, he brings a piece of our wider neighborhood with him.
On the fun side of the ledger: he pulls for the Atlanta Falcons, while cheerfully admitting to several backup teams. His favorite band is Sabaton, the Swedish heavy-metal outfit that sings about history’s great battles, which may be the most honest soundtrack ever chosen by someone who teaches first grade. Off the clock you will find him over a Sudoku grid, behind a controller, or on a pickleball court.
Say hello at coffee hour. He is good with names; he learns twenty new ones every August.
