St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church
Mitch Kemmer
Senior Warden
Mitch Kemmer serves as Senior Warden, the senior lay leader of the parish, working alongside the clergy in the day-to-day life and long-term care of St. Andrew’s.
By trade he is an attorney with a long record of public service, including a gubernatorial appointment to the Board of Trustees of the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind. That work is close to home. Mitch lost his sight as an adult, and after his accident he returned to the courtroom and to a life of service fuller than before. “I think I probably affect many more lives blind than I did when I was sighted,” he told The Bibb Voice.
It is the kind of story the gospel tells well: the hard thing named honestly, and then the surprising hope that grows up through it. Mitch brings that same steadiness to the work of a warden, helping a small parish steward what it has been given and keep its doors open wide. He holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Alabama School of Law and an undergraduate degree from the University of Alabama.
